Palapas Surfside!

Too few people have discovered Palapas Surfside on South Carefree just West of Powers. Only open a few months now, it's one of the finest restaurants in the Springs. Top end seafood unlike what you should expect this far from the coast. They fly a fresh catch in daily. This is NOT Joe's Crab Shack or Red Lobster.

The Scallops of Love are difficult to describe. Sweetened with brown sugar and wrapped in bacon, they are as tender as any scallops I've ever tasted.

The Ceviche du Jour comes in a little stemless martini glass resting in a glass globe filled with dry ice, so the dish comes to your table snapping and hissing. It's beautiful as it is delicious.

Palapas has beef, chicken, and lamb on their menu, but if you're interested in something other than seafood, you're going to the wrong place.

And, for a fine dining establishment, the prix fixe menu, with an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert for $40 is worth every single nickel. Their wine list is terrific, too, and the prices for wine are reasonable.

For some reason, they're relying on word of mouth rather than an advertising budget, which is curious and maybe a little bit dangerous. But, this is an absolute gem and the shining star on the Powers Corridor. Hopefully, the word will get out, and people will start heading to Palapas in greater numbers. This is a dining treat that MUST succeed.
