"Do not keep silent when your own ideas and values are being attacked ... If a dictatorship ever comes to this country, it will be by the default of those who keep silent."
--Ayn Rand
When you are presented with a document by which you can make your voice heard, sign it. It will be a petition for an amendment to our Colorado Constitution which states that in Colorado, homeowners associations ... or anything that even faintly resembles a homeowners association ... are prohibited.
"I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do. What I can do, I should do. And what I should do, by the grace of God, I will do."
--Edward Everett Hale
At least 120,000 signatures are needed on the petition to prohibit homeowners associations in the state of Colorado. Your's can be one of them. It is something that you not only can do, but should do, to return private property rights to you and all Coloradans.
"The only limit to the oppression of government is the power with which the people show themselves capable of opposing it."
--Enrico Malatesta
Show that you are capable of opposing dictatorial governments; that you want to live in freedom and liberty. Sign the petition to prohibit homeowners associations in the state of Colorado.
"Place me not with those who are weak of mind and willingly give up the rights of others, for these poor ignorant souls know not that the rights they give up are their own!"
--Warren Friton
Join forces with thousands of other intelligent and rational Coloradans when you sign the petition to prohibit homeowners associations in Colorado.

Douglas, when HOAs "go away" you will continue to have exactly what you have now. The only difference is that your housing choice will not include a controlling board of directors which has been mandated by your Colorado legislature and CAI lawyers. You, and your neighbors, will be able to do whatever you all decide you want to do with your former HOA. But what you all decide -- your "community organization" -- will be strictly voluntary. That is, no HOA laws telling you what you can or cannot do. You all can decide how you want to run your community YOURSELVES. It will be, if you all want it, a private contract between all of you to carry on just as before. The Colorado government, thru their former mandated HOA board of directors, will not be able to tell you what you can and cannot do in your own community. Neat, eh? :-)

While I don't particularly like some of the stupidity of HOAs, I guess I wonder what's going to happen to the Village 7 greenbelt if that HOA goes away. Does that mean those of us who like the fact that we have a little greenery in between the houses (unlike some other areas of this town) will have to either water it ourselves, clear the sidewalks, mow the grass, replace the lightbulbs and repair the sidewalks? Maybe there needs to be some sort of compromise---get rid of silly HOA rules but give residents the option to have some kind of community organization that can maintain nice things like we have. One of the reasons we bought our house in Village 7 was not how wonderful the house was, but the greenbelt with its paths and play areas. Unfortunately what Jan Jackson is here espousing is just as dictatorial as some HOAs have been.
