National Cowboy Poetry Week April 21-26
Contributed by: donna hatton on 4/20/2008

In April 2003, the United States Senate passed a resolution, with unanimous approval, to observe a week in April as National Cowboy Poetry Week.
This year19 states' governors, including Colorado's Governor Bill Ritter and other officials, have recognized Cowboy Poetry Week, April 21-26, 2008.
Cowboy Poetry Week was created in 2002 by CowboyPoetry.com and Cowboy Poetry.com, CEO Margo Metegrano.
Ms. Metegrano recently commented,"CowboyPoetry.com celebrates our Western heritage and today's working West, dedicated to preserving our important history and to promoting the Western arts that carry on those traditions. We strive to be the best central resource - where all are welcome - for information about Western and Cowboy Poetry and associated arts."
Working to promote the interests of the Western artist, CowboyPoetry.com has made available a directory of the Western arts to help bring Cowboy Poety and the Western Arts to the public. Through one of it's projects CowboyPoetry.com has reached out to the rural communities with it's Rural Library Project .
Metegrano states, "This is an important Cowboy Poetry Week outreach activity. Part of the on going mission of CowboyPoetry.com is to serve a mostly underserved community of rural Westerners. Each year, a new compilation CD of top classic and contemporary cowboy poetry, The BAR-D Roundup is offered, along with Cowboy Poetry Week posters, to many rural libraries across the West during Cowboy Poetry Week. CowboyPoetry.com is a community center, open to anyone who wants to drop in to learn the latest news, find information, tell a story, or read one. And like other community services, CowboyPoetry.com is free, depending on donations for it's outreach projects. "
This week western writers, performing songwriters and storytellers, local ranchers, Tom and Donna Hatton will present programs celebrating the cowboy at several schools in the Pikes Peak area. The Hatton's share their heritage as a ranch family and the rich dramatic stories of the American West in poetry and song.
