Girl Scouts Donate Over 1,000 Pounds of Food!
Contributed by: Laura Clark on 11/22/2008

During the month of November, Girl Scouts from across Colorado are collecting food to help fill their neighborhood food banks for the winter.

Local Girl Scout Troops from the Pikes Peak Region spent the past few weeks collecting food for the Care and Share Food Bank, an organization that provides food to families in need in Southern Colorado.

Girl Scouts are known for going above and beyond to help community members in need, and this event was no exception. Girls walked their neighborhoods with a wagon and a smile, knocking on doors asking for food donations. They called friends and families, and even raided their own pantries to collect caned and non-perishable food items for Care and Share.

92.9 The PEAK FM broadcasted at the event, challenging Girl Scout Troops to bring in as much food as possible. Girl Scouts showed up with cars and vans full of donations, and quickly got to work making signs and singing songs to attract even more contributions. All together, the Girl Scouts collected and donated over ONE THOUSAND POUNDS of food to Care and Share! Many of the patrons of Care and Share are in the position of making the choice of whether to pay the rent or put food on their child's plate. Thanks to the Girl Scouts of Colorado, 92.9 the Peak FM, and Care and Share, that decision will be a little easier this winter.
