A two- year old boy moves from Wisconsin to Colorado Springs. As he grows, he experiences the wonder and magic of the West...cowboys, Indians and a variety of wildlife. These images of the West will fuel the imagination of Kirby Sattler and he will become the premier painter of Native American portraits.
Sattler left Colorado Springs to study art at Arizona State University. He quickly realized that he didn't want to paint in someone else's style. He left school and began to develop his technique of multi-layering paint and translucent washes. His unique style was just the beginning. Sattler began to explore the connection between the Native Americans and the spiritual world. They had a belief that any object - the wing of a bird, a stone, a part of an animal, could contain metaphysical properties that could be passed on to the wearer. With that knowledge, Sattler's paintings took on incredible detail and unmatched life-like quality.
In 1991 Pine Creek Art Gallery became Sattler's publisher and in 1994 one of his images was chosen for the Territory Days poster. The poster was so popular that eight of Sattler's images have been used, as the official event poster, over the past fourteen years.
Sattler and his wife Basia are now building a home in the beautiful mountains of Mexico. Like many artists, he rarely makes a personal appearance. The last time was the signing of Territory Days posters in 1994. It's been many years, but on December 5 th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. , Kirby Sattler will return to Pine Creek Art Gallery, where he will present his new original paintings, giclees and prints.
The public is invited to meet this outstanding artist and view his art at Pine Creek Art Gallery, 2419 W. Colorado Ave, in Old Colorado City. Call 633-6767 for more information. www.artbrokers.com
