I have been involved with L-P tennis, both boys and girls as Head Varsity Coach for six years and about three years as an assistant. In total about 15 head to head dual matches with Cheyenne Mountain. I've always tried to come up with motivational ideas and quotes. I've known that some of those past matches could have gone our way but always our teams as talented as they were would realize they were playing Cheyenne Mountain not allowing them to step through the threshold of victory. On Monday the day before our last match with Cheyenne Mountain,I said to the team, "I've been doing this for many years and honestly am tired of loosing to a team because they have a certain logo on their shirt. I would like to make a deal with you all. I'm not going to tell you anything fancy, no quotes, no speeches, nothing. I only ask one thing from you and I want you to keep this all very simple. Just go out there tomorrow and lose if they are better than you. However, you will win if you are better than them. How is that for a deal? Simply go out and play. Nothing more or less. Nothing, but play". "Eight of the eleven members have been on the team for three or more years.Because of this I believe as a team we communicate and understand each other exceptionally well. It does not surprise me in the least that this was in fact the first L-P tennis team who finally took the path to victory not only over Cheyenne Mountain but more importantly over themselves".
