Well, we have been into the Baptist Road project for more than a year now with not one inch of pavement to be found. Anything we as a community would be proud of is just a pipe dream. This project has been one fiasco after another. In 2003 the local communities were asked to provide comments and the county received close to 180 concerns. (This information has been removed from their Web site so exact numbers are no longer available.) The comments were concerns about safety, noise, negative effects on property values, lighting, landscaping, etc. I find no record of the county, DOT or BRRTA responding. Yep, they checked the box - public input.
It would seem to me the communities of Jackson Creek and Gleneagle deserve better than this. The list is long but one of the major issues at hand is noise abatement. El Paso County stated they had performed a noise study along the corridor to determine if a noise wall was justified. Just a few problems here. One, they did not accomplish the study on the south side of Baptist west of Gleneagle; they figured the homes were not dense enough to warrant. Two, they used more than double the cost to accomplish the cost-benefit analysis. Of course this would result in a skewed study and they would get the answer they wanted.
So what will we get? Seems they still have not completed the design of Baptist. We don't know about landscaping, noise berms, guard rails, lighting etc. Maybe it's not too late. We, as a community, need to express our anger and contact BRRTA, PPRTA, our commissioner, and the Monument mayor to get some resolution. It's been over a year now, c'mon. Quit pushing the dirt around and do something for the residents and your constituents.
IMO, this project was doomed from the start. It is a combination of poor planning, inadequate design, poor scheduling, no repect for the residents, and just plain ineptitude. Maybe if we were developers...
