Saturday, January 12, was a treat for dog-lovers at the Monument Library..
Following a reading of
Ivan the Terrier, families were treated to a performance by the Dancing Dogs from All Breed Rescue and Training. Dancers Lyra and Zoe joined their trainers in some canine freestyle . Children then asked questions about the program and had the chance to pet and treat the performers.
Dog-themed bookmarks and figures were then created, and snacks were shared.
Two canine library celebrities were then honored. Mike and Lacey, Golden Retrievers who have served as Paws to Read dogs, are retiring from the program. For several years, each has listened to youngsters read stories for one afternoon a week.
They arrived, freshly groomed and charming, to receive the affection of their audience and to be given parting gifts and handmade cards from the children.
Do you know a dog who likes children and stories? The Paws to Read program has been suspended until new dogs are found. All breeds are accepted, and the dog must be able to pass the Canine Good Citizenship test.
