This year's Serteen Pizza Night was a blast! There were many Serteen members who came to get club t-shirts, listen to the sponsors of Serteen speak, and of course eat pizza! We had a great turn out and thank everybody who came for being a part of this fun event!
Some people who spoke at the Pizza Night were Libby, Brad, Julie, and Tafari Lumumba. Tafari is the coordinator of EPYCS (El Pomar Youth in Community Service). He explained that EPYCS was a way for high school kids to get involved in making grants within the community by giving funds to many non-profit organizations. He encouraged students to get involved with Serteen and EPYCS because community service is something that can benefit others and yourself.
Libby also spoke at the Pizza Night. She is from the Monument Branch Library, and explained what types of events are coming up at the library. She was excited about one event coming up called Alice's Unbirthday Party. Libby said that this is a great way to get kids reading classics like
Alice in Wonderland.
Julie from High Point Academy also made an appearance. She explained that Serteens who volunteer at High Point Academy interact with disabled children and horses. If you love being around horses and you want to have a great time with children then you should definitely volunteer at High Point Academy!
Another guest at the Serteen Pizza Night was Brad from Western Mining Museum. He asked for Serteens to help him teach Elementary School kids on certain Saturdays. Serteens will be teaching Geology in October, Simple Mechanics in January, and Women's History in March. He will teach the Serteen volunteers everything they need to know before they get to teach the elementary kids. If you love teaching kids about Geology, Mechanics, or Women's History, then sign up for the Western Mining Museum!
The Serteen Pizza Night was definitely a success, but it couldn't have happened without the help of some key people. Natalie Losarokus and Cindy Martinez from Palmer Lake Elementary School donated $100 worth of Domino's pizza to Serteen! A big thanks goes out to them for being so generous. The Serteen board members and teacher advisors also did a great job setting up for the Pizza Night. Without them, the Pizza Night would not have been such a great success.
