To know Margo is to love Margo.
Where to begin. I guess with all the common denominators: 38 years of marriage; 30 homes (not to be confused with houses); and an Air Force wanderlust that took us to places and people that our now inextricably linked in our lives.
Now for the discriminators. Throughout this incredible journey Margo brought to the proverbial table many and varied attributes that endeared her to those who made her acquaintance. By no means is this an exhaustive list, but it certainly captures the essence of this special lady.
First and foremost, what you see is what you get. In more emotional terms, Margo is genuine to the core. She is a compassionate listener that brings out the best in everyone. She would far rather deal "one on one" and keep her dialogue on a very personal, and meaningful, level...do you sense the first attribute of her store coming to the fore?
I mentioned home versus house. Without exception, Margo has taken her God given, innate talents and built a welcoming environment in each of our physical dwellings...no matter how modest...and she made each and everyone our castle. Her sense of style and perspective would proficiency advance her along with the best of her schooled contemporaries. And...her store exactly reflects those qualities.
Quantity versus quality. This was never a choice in our lives. We were a single income family for the majority of our married years and what money that was spent was spent on durable goods and services that would serve us well across the years. Many of the items in Margo's store are products that we have enjoyed and/or been exposed to for over 30 years. So, she knows her products, and would not put her name against anything she would not have in our home.
Sentimentality. Margo cherishes her relationships. She will go to extraordinary means to ensure those with whom she meets are treated with the utmost respect and with unfettered integrity. Those values will resonate in her store.
For nearly 38 years, this was all about supporting Dave while she quietly continued on her own unassuming journey that only a selfless artisan could undertake. Now, it is all about Margo...as it should be. Interestingly, Margo will not see herself as the benefactor of this new role but will take far greater joy in "giving" of her time and talents to the benefit of others. I only wish I had that capacity.
Margo will make her own luck. I am a mere bystander in the system offering periodic, mechanical process inputs to provide her as clear a path to success as possible. Margo is playing to her many strengths and we have reached out to the subject matter experts to shore her up in areas that are not on her radar screen...such as marketing and bookkeeping. When you think about it, why would you dilute her energies when you can wrap her with the support she needs from so many wonderful friends!
Here is a quick anecdote that sums this all up. Recently Margo was on a vendor's Web site and saw that the vendor had discounted products Margo was carrying down to what we paid at wholesale. Of note, Margo had already sold those products. She called the owner of the company and told her that she could not in good conscious retain the retail sale knowing that the customer could purchase the item on line at a significantly reduced price and that Margo intended to refund the monies...whether or not her customer would ever visit the vendor's Web site. Well, the monies were not refunded and the vendor apologized and immediately retracted the discount. This says it all...that is what I love about Margo.
When you visit her...what you see is what you get...and what you too will love.
