Second Street Art Market begins with the premise that life is a gift and everything in it a little magical. The dream, or vision of the market, began in 1997 when Douglas Buchman suggested to his soon-to-be bride, Heather, that one day they open a little store, one where she could share the things she loved-art, music, gardens, books, and other pretty little things.
Ten years, and two young sons later, we open in 2007 believing two things. One, we will always be changing and evolving, and forever believe in infinite possibilities. Two, and most significantly, we will find both customers and artists who are kindred spirits in our wondrous journey.
We are defined only by loving what we do. We strive to share with you treasures and simple delights-those we have created and those we have found-objects that will bring inspiration to your daily life and feed your soul.
Our goal at Second Street Art Market is to inspire our customers to linger. Every object and every work of art has or tells a story. We select and design our products with an eye for craftsmanship, small details and that special something that puts a little dance in your step and warmth in your heart.
Taking over from the highly successful Pankratz Gallery, Second Street Art Market is taking its place in the community of Monument which boasts a strong commitment and history of supporting the arts. With January's retirement of Linda Pankratz, a unique opportunity opened up for Heather and Douglas Buchman, a watercolor artist, and they are now fulfilling their dream of opening a gallery.
Opening March 21, Second Street Art Market displays and sells paintings, photography, jewelry, pottery, fiber, glass, garden art, wood, metal, music, books, other home decor and handmade art and fine craft. They represent top professional artists and craftspeople from the western region of the United States, with a focus on local artisans.
Artists featured include Douglas Buchman, Kathryn McMahon, Imgard Knoth, Nancy Bonig, Linda Lugenbill, Thad Handrick, Gail Necker, Harriette Trees Spencer, John Peer, Jebedis Jewels, Erica Zap, Elizabeth Wamsley, Ginny Cash, Mariya Zvonkovich, Robin Grabowski, Matt Ziemke, Fred Conlon, Solar Chimes, Tin Woodsman, Bella Luz, Barbara Roeming and Mina Lee.
The Buchmans encourage visitors to linger and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and pleasant environment in which they feature artwork and gifts, where visitors can take advantage of iPod listening stations to preview CDs for sale in the market and enjoy a cup of always freshly brewed coffee. They are offering their guests the very best art and fine craft selection possible along with extraordinary customer service.
Second Street Art Market, a 2,100 square foot gallery, is located in the historic district of the town of Monument, on the original site of the
1900's Carlson and Fink Creamery, and now the Gallery Center.
The town of Monument is committed to supporting the arts through its many annual events including the highly successful Art Hops which take place
the third Thursday of the month from May to October. Located just off Interstate 25 with easy on-and-off access, Second Street Art Market is a convenient stop for those living and traveling between Denver and points south (I-25 exit 161 and then west on Second Street).
