Bob Duckworth, President
Gleneagle Sertoma Club takes great pride in presenting its 2006 - 2007 Sertoman of the Year award to Sherry Edwards, a life member of Sertoma. Her ceaseless dedication to realizing the goals of Sertoma, boundless willingness to serve, and continuous ability to exceed expectations have set a high standard for other Sertomans to follow. When Sherry joined Gleneagle Sertoma as a transfer from Austin Bluffs in September 2004, she immediately took on the mantle of the member willing to plan, lead, serve, or advise nearly any project. She is an advisor for Pine Creek Serteens (International Serteen Club of the Year), Board of Directors 2005 - present, VP Ways and Means 2006 - present, Golf Committee Co-Chair, and Chair of our Social Committee. She is a dependable and energetic driving force behind all club projects and regularly attends District and Regional Conferences and Conventions.
A LEADER BEYOND COMPARE
Sherry brought Wine Tasting as a fund-raiser concept to Gleneagle Sertoma. This is her fourth year as co-chair of "Spirits of Spring Wine and Beer Tasting", raising nearly $14,000 to support club projects. This successful and exceptionally well-run event has been highlighted in the Sertoma Club Manual for successful fundraisers. Further, after supporting the Golf committee in 2005 and 2006, she Co-Chaired the Committee in 2007. Her proactive approach obtaining donations, support, and committee leadership has helped Gleneagle Sertoma raise over $12,000 through the fine old sport of golf. Finally, her planning support was essential to the success of the 2006 Christmas Party, and the 2007 Installation Banquet. She has been Publicity Chairman for numerous fundraisers and was Assistant Sergeant at Arms for two years.
DEDICATION FOR ALL TO ADMIRE
Sherry's dedication to Gleneagle Sertoma is demonstrated in many ways. She clearly believes in the goals of Sertoma and the value of the Gleneagle club to the community it serves. The evidence of her continuous efforts is her attainment of Senator Four to Six in the past three years -
only the late Senator Strom Thurmond had more years of consistent performance as a Senator.
ACCEPTS THE HARDEST CHALLENGES
Sherry's willingness to go where others fear to tread is illustrated by her taking on the role of VP of Ways and Means for 06/07 and 07/08. This challenging Board position provides the life blood of club support to the charitable and other organizations that make life more enjoyable and rewarding for so many of our fellow citizens. Whether Easter Seals, the Boy Scouts of America, Care and Share, or the many other recipients of funds raised through her efforts, they all have benefited from Sherry's steadfast refusal to give less than 110% of her self to raising funds vital to attaining their goals.
CONSISTENT SUPPORTER OF ALL CLUB ACTIVITIES
For the club activities that Sherry does not lead, she unselfishly supports them with her time and efforts. Her support to the following projects was a major component of their successful accomplishment.
· Continuing a long history as a Judge in for the National Heritage Essay Contest in 2006 and 2007.
· Manitou Springs Holiday Parade in 2004
· Annual Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign
· Fox Run Park Cleanup

· Semi-annual Blood Drive as volunteer and donor

More than just a Sertoman
In addition to Sertoma, Sherry solicits donations for Junior Achievement of Colorado Springs and is a member of the Gleneagle Women's Club, a local philanthropic organization that donates to local charities. In the Gleneagle Women's Club, she has been president, spearheaded a major fund-raiser for the club, helped increase the membership, participated in publicity programs which included appearing on television several times, and was instrumental in supporting Bob Telmosse's Children's Christmas Fund and Toy Collection program. Sherry continues to be involved in the GWC annual style shows that she organized and ran in 2000 and 2001. She was the program manager setting up monthly luncheons and speakers for the group in 2000 and 2001. Fellow GWC member Mary Kay Jones says, "Her biggest contributions to the Women's Club were her constant support and organization of our fund-raisers, which meant that we could donate several thousand dollars to our local philanthropic organizations."
We honor her achievements by selecting her as Gleneagle's Sertoman of the Year for 2007.
