Blog Entry 7 of 14 Sample this and that
Welcome to Sample's blog. I am a mom of three young girls and live in a great neighborhood and community. A very small town with a huge heart. I struggle with a theme for my blog, so I will just tell you that it is about everyday life as a mom, wife, friend, community journalist and sports enthusiast. I truly believe everyone is interesting and has a story to tell. I hope to share some interesting, funny, insightful and informative blogs that you can relate to as a parent, friend, neighbor, YMCA sports fan, working mom, dad, at home or outside the home, everyday joe about everyday life.

Take me out to the ballgame
Contributed by: Michele Sample   on 7/2/2007

Last Thursday I had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at the Sky Sox baseball game. I took my whole family, so they were there to witness this exciting event. My husband had me practicing in our backyard with a softball, and I was a little nervous. My pitches were not going the 60' they needed to go.

A couple co-workers filled me in on a tip. Aim high over the pitcher's head, and you won't have any problems.

After the girls got their concessions, pretzels, nachos and a hot dog, the friendly Sky Sox employees escorted me down on the field. The huge big screen on the field showed me walking up to the mound. I forgot everything.

My daughter said I rushed the pitch. My husband yelled, "Give her another chance", and my middle daughter came running up to me after I got back in the stands. "Was that embarrassing mommy?"

Needless to say, I didn't get the ball over home plate. I released the ball too soon, and it bounced way in front of the pitcher. The catcher handed me the ball for a souvenir. "Don't worry, " he said, "we've seen worse."

It really didn't bother me, because the evening was perfect. Spending the night with my family and watching America's favorite pasttime. My girls learned about the game, got on the big screen, had a game of their own guessing the speed of each pitch, and ate cotton candy.
