Now that the weather is warming up and we will be spending more time in the sun, we will need a good sun screen. Think about using an organic sunscreen this year. Remember that your skin absorbs whatever you put on it. The products in the sunscreens and skin products are absorbed into your blood stream. Look for sunscreens that do not contain: parabens, EDTA or color dyes all of which can create problems in our bodies.
Organic sunscreens have their pluses and minuses, they are not as waterproof as their national brand counter parts. We apply ours twenty minutes before going into the water, which seems to help the sunscreen stay on better. We reapply it as soon as we get out of the water. We also apply the organic sunscreen at least every two hours, but I count it a small price to pay to keep a few more toxins off our bodies. Some of my favorites are: Alba Botanica Organic, Earth's Best, Kiss My Face and Avalon Organics Natural Mineral Sunscreen.
Many experts recommend getting 15 minutes of sun a day, before 10:00am or after 2:00pm. Any longer exposure may be reason to use sunscreen. The sun helps your body make vitamin D, a key ingredient in the absorption of calcium. So, enjoy the warm weather and keep your skin healthy at the same time!
