Healthy Hint of the Week - Your Shower
Contributed by: Kathy Loidolt   on 3/5/2008

Let's talk about your morning shower. Each morning we turn on the warm water, open the pores to our skin and lather up the shampoo and soap. If our water is coming from the city, chances are it contains chlorine and other chemicals and is slowly poisoning us. Chlorine is a poison. The label states "do not ingest". If we should not ingest it, we should not put it on our skin for ten minutes every day.Our skin is our biggest organand can filter out or absorb vast amounts of toxins, it's up to us to put on the right products.Topical productsdon't just sit on our skin, they get absorbedthrough our skin and into our bloodstream. That is howsmoking and birth control skin patches work. The chemicalsare absorbed through our skin andinto our blood steam. If we are not using a shower filter to keep the chlorine off our skin, we are unknowingly putting chlorine into our blood stream and our bodies everyday.

Next, check the ingredients in your soaps and shampoos. If they containthe following ingredients, you are putting poison intothoseopen pores and thus absorbing these poisons into your skin: sodium and ammonium laurel sulfate, tetra sodium EDTA, butylated hydroxytolene, hydrochloric acid, cocamideDEA andpropylene glycol. These ingredients are the foaming, fragrant, rinsingagents that makeour soaps and shampoos feel andsmell great. Many of them are also carcinogens. Propylene glycol is anti freeze. Sodiumlaurel sulfate(SLS)islisted as "highly irritating and dangerous", EDTA contains sodium cyanide and formaldehyde (a known carcinogen),hydrochloric acid has its own MSDS (Material Data Safety Sheet) and is listed as hazardous toskin.

Our skin needs products that contain natural ingredientsthat we can pronounce.Shampoos and soaps madewith plants and natural oils can be found at your local health food stores and at somehair salons. Shower filterscan also be purchased at health food stores or ordered at www.newwaveenviro.com. Check the ingredients of the products you useandadd a shower filter, you will leave the shower with softer skin and peace of mind.
