The Colorado League of Charter Schools has announced that State Representative Kent Lambert will be the guest speaker at a special town hall meeting at 5pm on Thursday, May 29, at James Irwin Charter School, 5525 Astrozon Blvd in Colorado Springs.
The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to RSVP in advance at www.coloradoleague.org.
The evening's agenda will include discussions about how developments in the recent legislative session will affect charter schools in Colorado. Attendees will also learn how parental involvement and grassroots efforts made a difference in the way many Colorado State leaders voted on issues affecting charter schools.
"We are pleased that Representative Lambert will speak at our town hall meeting in Colorado Springs. He will provide attendees with valuable insight about the Legislative process from an elected official's point of view," said Jim Griffin, President of the Colorado League of Charter Schools. "The League is extremely thankful for Representative Lambert's ongoing support of charter school students in Colorado."
During the most recent legislative session, the Colorado League of Charter Schools' advocacy efforts at the State Capitol dramatically improved prospects for charter school facilities - doubling state funding for charter school facilities costs, and providing access to half a billion dollars in state grant funding for capital needs.
The Colorado League of Charter Schools is a membership association that serves and supports over 140 charter schools, free public schools of choice, in a way that benefits public education as a whole. The League focuses on commitment to higher levels of student achievement and school success. There are 56,458 students attending charter schools in Colorado, which equals 7% of total K-12 public school enrollment in the State.
