I adopted Zeb from the Humane Society in 2000 when my kids went to live with their father for the year. Zeb was to keep me company while I was childless. He was very scared when he first arrived and hid for about a week. He's turned into a faithful friend.
My son Matthew was petting Zeb when they returned that summer, and discovered a bent tail bone on the end and exclaimed, "He's got a quank in his tail!"
The man at the Humane Society said the "quank" (Matt's own made-up word) was most likely from his tail being slammed in a door. Poor kitty! I'll protect you!
About two months ago, my good friend was moving back to the Dominican Republic where she's from to care of her mother. She found homes for her two dogs, but needed to find a home for "Biggie," her cat. I told her I'd take him in. When I arrived, Annie asked, "Can you take his brother, Grover, too?" I certainly hadn't expected two cats, but I agreed.
I didn't like Biggie's name because it reminded me of Wendy's french fries, and being a food addict, I didn't need that kind of reminding. So to rename the brothers and go with a theme, I decided to christen them Spanky and Buckwheat from "The Little Rascals."
Turns out, Spanky is a girl! She got renamed Delilah, after Alfalfa's girlfriend. Guess they'll be visiting Hamlett's soon so we don't have a bunch of "little rascals" running around the house!
When the two first arrived, Spanky/Delilah had prominent white tufts of fur sprouting from her ears and Buckwheat had a lot of gray in his tail. Not so anymore. Her tufts have fallen out and white hairs have sprouted in her tail so that they're nearly indistinguishable (until they reveal their personalities, of course). Delilah, being the female, is a bit smaller than Buckwheat so I can tell who's who when they're side by side. If they're separate, I have to wait to see who approaches me and when, and then I know.
