Blog Entry 19 of 23 The Incredible Shrinking Woman
DIET is a four letter word. My weight issues began in elementary school, when I started stealing and hiding food to comfort myself. In my early 20's, I really began packing on the pounds when I had 3 children within 8 years. I tried several diets, which WORKED, if only I would STICK with them. I used every excuse in the book: Life happens, I deserved it, I'm stressed, my fatness was everyone else's problem, people should accept me for WHO I was, not for what I looked like, who cares anyway? I lost weight for the wrong reasons, and the bad taste in my mouth stayed with me like a burnt entree. At my heaviest in December 2000, I weighed 237 lbs., morbidly obese for my 5'1" frame. A month later, I started a diet and joined a gym and got down to 159 by September. After a family crisis occurred and lasted 4 years, my turning to food for comfort took its toll. Still I searched...magazines, books, supplements, but never found the missing link until Nov. '06, when I looked at my recovery from an emotional, spiritual, physical and mental standpoint. Finding an exercise regimen I could live with for the rest of my life was crucial as well. Won't you join me on my journey as I whittle myself down to my goal of 123 lbs. by March 2008?

Curves Sweetheart Contest 2008
Contributed by: Stephanie Johnson   on 2/7/2008

Wow! Has it really been more than a year since I changed my ways? Sometimes it's hard to believe, other times, I'm painfully aware of how long I've been doing this!

Here is my 2008 entry for the Sweetheart Contest at the Curves at Astrozon and South Academy where I'm a member. If you're looking for a place to work out, I highly recommend Curves, and here's why:

Starting a diet is easy. Sticking with it is hard!

I have been overweight most of my adult life. I reached my heaviest weight in 2000 when I tipped the scales at 237 pounds. In November 2007, I decided to change my lifestyle, so I joined Curves as my form of regular exercise and Weight Watchers for eating healthy.

In the beginning it was easy, especially because I had a wedding in July to look forward to. But after the wedding bells stopped ringing, things got tough. That's when being a member of Curves is crucial - nowhere else will I get the support that I so desperately need. The staff and members at Curves have made a huge difference in helping me stick to my goals.

When I didn't show up for a week, I got phone calls wondering where I was and was told I was missed. When I "fell off the wagon" and didn't want to come anymore, my friends encouraged me not to give up. When I isolated and binged on unhealthy foods, they urged me to get back on track. When I gained 10 pounds, they had faith in me that I'd take it back off. One friend has even been faithful in picking me up every morning to show her support and get me back to exercising and on a regular schedule every day!

I am so thankful for the friends I have made. I could not have done it without them! Curves really is different from any gym I've ever been to, and I'm here to stay! I couldn't do it without their love and support!

Thanks to all my "Sweethearts" at Curves - you remind me I'm worth it!

Update: I WON the contest! My prize was February's t-shirt: a red shirt with "I live life with all my heart" on the front in the shape of a heart.
