As you enter through the nondescript glass front door of Bird Dog BBQ at 5984 Stetson Hills Blvd., your nose is pleasantly assailed by the undeniable scent of real barbecue. Slowly you saunter up so as to fully inhale and appreciate those mouth-watering aromas wafting about. The cafeteria-style ordering and display counter have sliced and chopped brisket, spare ribs, turkey, chicken, sausage and prime rib all uncompromisingly slow cooked to a tender smoked perfection. If you are a barbecue lover (and who isn't?) you can't help but to bask in the visual potpourri of meat lover delights being offered. This vision of succulently smoked renderings causes your mouth to salivate in eager anticipation of that first taste-tempting morsel. With four types of brown sugar and tomato-based sauces for your meat and a wide variety of side dishes such as baked beans, fried okra, potato salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob and baked potatoes, you are sure to be satisfied. The portions are quite hearty, but should on the off chance you find your appetite hasn't been satiated or you actually thought ahead and saved a little room, then by all means partake of the peach cobbler and ice cream for dessert.
The ambiance beckons one back to an earlier time when those quaint little diners of yesteryear were ever so popular. The tables and booths are clean and simply furnished without a lot of pretentious fanfare. This is a restaurant that you and your family will immediately feel comfortable in, much like a visit to your grandma's kitchen. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves, put your elbows on the
table, stuff a napkin in the collar of your shirt and dig in to some of the best barbecue around. This lip-smacking, finger-licking, downright gnaw-on-the-bone delicious barbecue is without a doubt some of the best this city has to offer.
