Did you have a booth at the show to display your business? How did that go for you? Was it worth the investment? No, no - not just the cost of the booth, and the marketing materials, and for your employees to be there, and the display ... but the time and effort that had to go into this prior to the show?
Did you "break even" by getting enough orders?
I do have to ask ... because I went as a visitor. And while I enjoyed the displays, and just being out of the house - even in THAT weather ... I was watching most vendors - and I don't think there was too much business being done.
Why? Because most people don't go to home shows with the intent to buy a product or service. Most go for the same reason I went - to have something to do, to maybe pick up some ideas and to see what's new.
So, if you were a vendor - were you prepared to engage those people walking through? Honestly - I don't think the majority of vendors were prepared. I cannot tell you the number of fliers, pens and brochures that were just handed to us. Do you honestly expect people to make a buying decision based on THAT?
What did you offer for people to come back? Ask more questions? Get to know you better? Build a relationship with you? Did you exchange information, i.e. materials against an e-mail address?
Just handing out "stuff" is - in my opinion - a
waste of money, time, resources and effort.
Attending and exhibiting during an expo is no longer the event it used to be - you now have to embrace the changed consumer attitudes as well. Consumers no longer want to be sold - they want to be involved in a conversation. Can you provide that?
Sadly - I didn't see much of it during the home show. Guess there is always next year ... .
