Reflections From the Second Half
Musings of one with half a century (or more) gone. What is really important. What should have been done. What should have been said. Who is saying it.

In Moses Lake, the "oasis" of the central Washington State plains...just a wink along the interstate between Seattle and Spokane...awaits Michaels on the Lake restaurant. Set lakeside it offers great views, lots of sunshine and wonderful food. But what makes it worth the sacrifice of an hour or so on your hurried way to somewhere (because, in a lot of ways, Moses Lake will feel like nowhere) is the Mile High Mud Pie. It is definitely a "skip dinner and go right for the dessert" kind of experience.
Over the years my wife and I have made it a point to test every mud pie we have come across, starting with the Chart House version (possibly the original) back in 1975 in Santa Barbara, CA. Tasty, but we would both agree that Michaels has created the art form. Their version combines full flavored Starbucks Mocha Chip ice cream, ribboned with thick and rich chocolate fudge and littered with almonds, frozen in a cylinder. The presentation includes whipped cream under drizzles of chocolate and caramel syrup. I know, sounds familiar, but take our word for it...you have tasted nothing like it.
So stop on by, next time you are cruising I-90 across Washington State, and remember not to fill up on the first two or three courses...
