Ben Affleck outdid himself as a director with his first movie, "Gone Baby Gone."
Casey Affleck, Ben's brother, steals the show as Patrick, a private detective. His better half, Angie (Michelle Monaghan), is his partner.
Ed Harris plays Remy, who is part of the Boston Police Department, along with Captain Jack Doyle (Morgan Freeman), who is head of the missing persons unit. They are adamant about finding Amanda, who was kidnapped out of her house. Her mother Helene (Amy Ryan) is a cocaine addict who has a lot of people out to get her because of drug runs that she has been doing. The police are on the case, but Amanda's family wants more help so they go to Patrick and Angie. The Boston Police Department teams up with the two detectives. Captain Jack Doyle experiences the loss of a child first hand and is determined to find Amanda. Throughout the movie a debate goes on as to whether or not Helene even cares about her daughter's kidnapping. Patrick sees the love Helene has for her daughter when no one else does. His connections in the neighborhood help him get leads on who might be involved in the scandal. Halfway through the movie Doyle takes an early retirement and I thought his role had vanished. Remy and Patrick are working on the case and feel defeated as another missing child case pops up.
Just as you think the movie is ending, Remy begins to steal the show and Morgan Freeman shows back up. Patrick puts a few clues together and finds the glitch in the system. He risks his relationship with Angie for the sake of justice. The closing scene leaves you asking yourself: What would I have done?
