Musical July Mondays in Monument Valley Park
Contributed by: Sheila Wallace on 6/13/2008

The tunes will be as cool as the shaded lawns when Musical Mondays crank up in July in Monument Valley Park. Musical Mondays, presented by Friends of Monument Valley Park, will take place each Monday evening in July on the west lawn of the Fine Arts Center. All concerts are free and open to the public.

The Musical Mondays lineup has something for everyone, and all of these shows will provide great family entertainment. Folks are encouraged to come early, pack a picnic supper, bring blankets or lawn chairs-and bring a friend!

Here's the schedule and a link to the musicians' Web sites:

July 7 Joe Uveges, Susan Rissman & KJ Braithwaite www.joeuveges.com

July 14 Steve Weeks www.steveweeksmusic.com

July 21 Bill Emery & the New Century Band www.billemerymusiccompany.com

July 28 The Most Dangerous Summer Band (District 11 musicians) with Conductor Brian Usher

The music starts at 7 p.m. each night. The west lawn of the Fine Arts Center is at Monument & Cache La Poudre Streets. There are no rain dates for these concerts.

The Friends of Monument Valley Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the enhancement and improvement of the natural and cultural environment in the park. Since its inception in 2000, Friends has revived two annual events, Lilac Day and General Palmer Day. Last year Friends sponsored a 5k-10k run in the park as part of the park's centennial celebration. Friends was also instrumental in getting the park placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. This year Friends donated and planted trees on Arbor Day with city Forestry. We have ongoing projects for historic preservation and park enhancements.

Membership is open to everyone, and new members are always welcome. Please visit our table at Musical Mondays!
