A Grand Day for a Grand Opening
Contributed by: Diabetes Care Center on 10/12/2007

Thursday, September 27th began with blue skies and warm temperatures. It was a great day to celebrate the Grand Opening of Colorado Springs' newest diabetes education facility, the Diabetes Care Center. As the day unfolded, the contemporarily-designed brick building at 1621 West Colorado Avenue was enhanced with many colors, scents, and sounds.
Local health-care providers, diabetes supply companies, building residents, and all who helped in the development of the Diabetes Care Center were invited to the festivities.
Several local artists from the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs, including Bill McGee, Robin Anderson, Martha Marple, and J. Edward, and other small businesses also participated in helping to create an elegant, colorful atmosphere. Many thanks go to the following people:
Karol Peat, who created beautiful arrnagements with bright, exotic flowers to decorate the office and tables.
MeLinda Struska, owner of MeLinda's Cookies (melindascookies.com), who brought smiles to the faces of all who joined the party with her decorative physician-shaped and fall leaves cookies.
Debi Moore, owner of Fandies Candy Company in Canon City, who delighed our tastebuds with an array of homemade fudges (fandiescandy.com)
Skip and Pat Grubelnik of Buttons and Balloons, who added color and flare to each table with bright orange and red helium balloons
Dangerous Moods, a wonderfully talented B&B band who performed on the patio, entertaining party attenders and neighbors for 3 hours.
Will Dawson, who freely offered his services to create and provide an introductory DVD for all who attended the party.
The owners, Deanne Vialpando and Andrea L. Houk, both RNs and diabetes educators, along with their registered dietitian, Jessica Brenner, and Spanish-speaking RN, Patricia Allen, enjoyed meeting the participants and conversing over tasty hors d'oeuvres and desserts.
As the day of the Grand Opening came to an end, the Diabetes Care Center closed the doors for the night. However, because of the hard work and support of family, friends, and fellow health-care professionals, the Diabetes Care Center looks forward to opening its doors in the Colorado Springs area for many more years to come.
