$70 Mammograms for Breast Cancer Awareness
Contributed by: Colorado Springs Health Partners on 10/4/2007

Breast cancer remains the leading cause of death for women between the ages of 35 and 54 according to the American Cancer Society. In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Colorado Springs Health Partners, P.C., is offering a low-cost mammogram program again this year.

Women without full insurance benefits may receive a routine mammogram screening for $70, which includes Computer Aided Detection (CAD). If additional imaging is required, fees will be discounted 25%. CSHP is an ACR Certified Breast Mammography Center and performs approximately 8,000 mammograms annually.

"It is vitally important that women receive mammograms to detect breast cancer at an earlier stage, when it is more likely to be cured," states Michael Fox, MD, radiologist with CSHP. "This is the sixth year CSHP is offering the low-cost program," adds Fox.

"We recommend a mammogram every one to two years for women over 40, depending upon risk factors," adds CSHP radiologist Pio Hocate, MD.

While some women fear a mammogram, the CSHP radiology department continually receives high praise from patients:

" I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to one of your mammographers. Prior to coming in, I had never had a mammogram so my apprehension was very high. She assured me that the discomfort, if any, would be minimal and the benefits of the mammogram far outweighed any apprehensions I might be experiencing. Her professionalism not only demonstrated her technical knowledge but her commitment to the profession. Her compassion was a pleasant surprise in an environment that deals with thousands of mammograms with varying results. I would like to express my sincere appreciation for her technical expertise, her kindness and compassion."

Women interested in a low-cost mammogram should contact the CSHP Radiology calling 667-4139, option 1, and referring to the special discount program.Appointments need to be requestedduring the month of October to qualify for the discount, even if the appointment is set for later in the year.

More information about the discount programs, and links to informative cancer and breast cancer web sites can be found at www.cshp.net.
