New Diabetes Center In Town

Two enterprising young women, who have struggled with juvenile (Type I) diabetes for many years, decided to use their experiences and education to help others involved in the same battle.This idea evolved when thery were in nursing school.

After becoming registered nurses, both Deanne Vialpando and Andrea Houk turned the idea into a reality. The Diabetes Care Center opened its doors on West Colorado Avenue in February, 2007.

When you walk through the doors you will not see a typical medical facility. Instead, as you are greeted by friendly smiles, you will be surrounded by splashes of bright colors and beautiful art created by local artists.

The purpose of this new center? To educate and support, in a personal and caring way, those afflicted with the disease of diabetes and those who support them. Individual and group sessions are available covering a variety of topics including diet and nutrition, exercise and activity, medications and monitory devices, and life management skills.

The Diabetes Care Center also proudly staffs a local Spanish-speaking RN and is one of the only diabetes education centers in Southern Colorado to offer all services in both English and Spanish.

Deanne Vialpando and Andrea Houk are making a difference in the lives of those who share their disease. We wish them much success!
