A Special House

Recently, I got a chance to taste a new Vietnamese restaurant in the westside called House of Saigon. It is located right behind Van Briggle's Pottery in the 21 Shopping Center. The exact address is 1014 South 21st Street. I met the owner and Lead Chef, Nhien Nguyen, along with his coworkers, Thi, Tuan and Tai, for their lunch special, the Combination Lo Mein. For a person who has tasted many lo mein dishes from hundreds of asian restaurants from California to Texas, House of Saigon ranked right near the top. The noodles were soft but also rich in texture and the meats and vegetables were plentiful. Along with a drink, the lunch set me back less than $10.

A couple of days later, I made an appointment to return to talk to Nhien. I found out that he has been a chef for over 13 years and recently opened his own restaurant, House of Saigon, to showcase his culinary skills. He moved here from Vietnam 14 years ago and worked for a local restaurant where he helped them become very successful. Nhien wanted to remain in the Colorado Springs area because of the peaceful and small-city ambience. He is interested in providingthe atmosphere of a familial eatery where the local workers can come for an inexpensive, quality and healthy lunch as well as a dinner destination for couples and the kids. From what I saw during the two occasions that I was there, he will have no problems achieving his goals. It is a great place to taste quality Vietnamese food!
