A Puppy for Christmas
Contributed by: Brian McCarrie on 12/27/2007

This past year we've lost a couple of pets in our family. First was the dog that I had for almost 13 years. He was getting old and was having some problems so we had to have him put down. Next was our cat that we had for about 2 years. She was an outdoor/indoor cat and one day pretty much decided to leave. We live pretty close to The Garden of The Gods so we suspect that she may have met up with a coyote. We were all pretty down about loosing these family members so my wife and I decided to surprise the kids with a puppy for Christmas.

We had been looking online and had made a few trips to the pound to hopefully find a new dog but we weren't having any luck. My wife was then looking through the classifieds one weekend and came across a listing that sounded interesting. It was a listing for a plumber terrier. We did some research online and found out that a Plumber Terrier is a mix of a Beagle a Jack Russle and one other breed. We decided to give them a call and take a look.

We met up with the breeders and were introduced to a very cute little puppy that looked more like a Beagle than anything else. We decided to get her but we asked the breeders if they could hold on to her until Christmas eve. They agreed.

Christmas eve came and the plan was for me to take the kids to the movies while she worked a half day and then went to pick up the puppy. The kids and I went to see the Alvin and the Chimpmunks movie. I called my wife after we got out of the movie and she informed me that she had "the package". The kids and I stopped off one more time on the way home, I called my wife one more time to make sure she was ready. I got the green light so we went home.

When we got there, there was a large present in the middle of the living room floor. The kids asked what it was. My wife said "this is the one present you can open on Christmas Eve."

My daughter started to open the package and yelled "a puppy!". She opened the crate, the puppy jumped in her lap and started licking her face. My son then got in there a was the victim of a vicious licking attack too.

We ended up naming her Ginger. She's a typical puppy. If she's not going 100 miles per hour, she is napping. We've had a few accidents but she's pretty much on track with getting house trained. So far she's been a great little addition to the family.

I would be interested to find out who the Colorado breeder of your dog was. I live in California but bought a Plummer pup from a Colorado breeder in September 2007 that I have now been unable to contact.

This strain of terrier was created by Brian Plummer and David Brian Plummer about 30 years ago in England, and was named for them. Therefore, it is a Plummer Terrier, not a "Plumber" Terrier. Great story, and great Christmas for your family.
