Rival Improv Troupes Battle for Title of "Improv King"
Colorado Springs, Colo. (May 13, 2008) - Improvisational comedy troupes Stick Horses in Pants and RiP will go head to head on June 6 and 7 for the title of Colorado Springs' finest. The shows will take place at 8 p.m. at Venue 515, the Business of Art Center in Manitou Springs and consist of family-friendly improv in three rounds. The competition will feature celebrity judges and will allow audience members to vote for their favorites.
Stick Horses in Pants began performing improv in Colorado Springs in 2004. RiP began a year later. During the past few years, a friendly rivalry between the two troupes has been mounting. "We've enjoyed watching each other perform," says Stick Horse member Hunter Willis. "Now it's time to see who can claim the title of 'Improv King of Colorado Springs!'"
The troupes welcome the chance to perform together. " RiP is happy for the opportunity to collaborate with SHIP," says RiP member Margarita Archilla. "This show is a great way of getting improv on the map as a viable entertainment option in the Pike's Peak region."
The show promises to be high-energy, and its competitive, "American Idol" feel will force both troupes to bring their best material to the stage as they create on-the-spot skits using audience suggestions. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at www.thestickhorses.com: Adults, $8; Students, $6.
Stick Horses in Pants has been entertaining audiences in Colorado Springs and Denver, performing at the Broadmoor and the Colorado Springs School. RiP, whose members boast extensive theater experience beyond improv, have produced, directed and starred in their own production runs at the Bovine Metropolis Theater in Denver.
