Family Fun at Globe's Fall Festival
Contributed by: Theresa Null on 10/27/2007

I'm ready for more already...more costumes, more cake walks, mini-pumpkin decorating, singing, guitar music, arm painting, more dancing and smiling children, contented parents, and tons of homemade food.

Globe Charter School (off of Bijou) has got it made. Class sizes are limited to 17, the school offers 4 languages, and the teachers and staff know their students and their families (and extended families) by name.

The caring was evident throughout the night. One young stormtrooper had used all his tickets and wanted to decorate another pumpkin. His teacher called him by name and asked if three decorated pumpkins were enough. He just needed one more pumpkin to decorate. The teacher suggested he add feathers to this one.

I'm waiting in the cakewalk room when an uncle, two aunts and one beautiful, three foot tall young lady come in. The teacher knows each of them by name and assures the family that the pumpkins will be safe to dry over the weekend.

As I carefully decorate my pumpkin, a lady strums a guitar and three singers assist her in entertaining the guests. A young man, not even school-aged, starts dancing. Another lady shows me her dragon and snake "tatoo."

Yup, I'm ready for another fall festival. How about you?
