Cripple Creek's "Wildwood Casino" now open
Contributed by: jane rodgers on 6/1/2008

Cripple Creek, Co. May 30, 2008 -- Wildwood Casino was officially granted its license today to open its doors and conduct gaming by the Colorado Division of Gaming. Wildwood Casino opened its doors to the public Saturday at 10 a.m. May 31, 2008 after the ribbon-cutting ceremony which was open to the public.

I was honored to be invited to do this story and take pictures of this one-of-a-kind casino . The ribbon ceremony was awesome and the grand tour of this wonderful casino was even better.

At 8:30 a.m. we met with General Mgr. Kevin Werner upstairs where the offices are located, and I started the interview. I asked him how the opening today would be different from the Grand opening on June 12. Mr Werners answer was that their will only be one ribbon cutting ceremony ,and ONE first day opening and that is today May 31 . Great answer Mr Werner!

On June 12 for our Grand opening Mr Werner said we will have "parties and special events." Pop singer Jamie O' Neil will be singing at 5:30 p.m. plus Country singers [father and daughter ] Jimmie and Minnie Murphy also will be performing in the Saddle Bar Restaurant. There will be live entertainment every Friday and Saturday in the Restaurant. I don't know of any other Casino in Cripple Creek where you can go to hear live music . Today the music was by The Hildees and they were great.

In addition to gaming, Wildwood Casino will also introduce a wide variety of quality dining options including a full service upscale restaurant, Maverick"s which offers a varied menu of American fare and other favorites. The Fireside Kitchen features gourmet, hand-carved deli sandwiches, toasted paninis, homemade soups, pizza and pastries. The Saddle Bar will feature drink specials, video poker and live entertainment.

I then asked Kevin Werner, General Manager of Wildwood Casino, the question that everyone wants to know, and that is "what Wildwood will mean for the Casinos on Bennet Avenue"?

"Competition is a great thing," said Werner. "Everybody's freshening up their casinos, plus everybody will increase their quality level and we"ll all make money.

"We are thrilled to introduce people to a new level of gaming in the Cripple Creek area. The combination of our exquisite product, great location and superior teamwork will provide locals and visitors alike with the most exciting and pleasing experience possible," Werner said.

"We are confident that we will create a new and different impression of gaming in the Cripple Creek market. The casino also will employ approximately 250 people in all areas of operations, including gaming, food and beverage, accounting, marketing, security and human resources. We are proud to be contributing to the growth and development of Cripple Creek and the Colorado gaming market."

With over 45,000 square feet of space, Wildwood Casino will offer a complete gaming experience with 678 slot machines,14 table games including blackjack and a poker room. The property also features an underground multi-level parking garage with 525 climate-controlled spaces and elevator access that will take players right to the heart of the gaming action.

Players will also have the option of enrolling in the Miner's club, which offers cash back, special event invitations, exciting mail offers, complimentary meals and much more.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is lodging. The Gold King Mountain Inn is owned by Wildwood Casino and has great rooms with stunning panorama views of historical Cripple Creek. You can take the shuttle to and from the casino.

Matt Andrighetti the "Miners Club Manager" finished the rest of the tour with us, and what a great tour Matt gave us of the rest of the Casino. I was allowed to take pictures of everything and anything in this magnificent casino, as you will see in the photos. I want to thank you Matt, Mr Werner, Mayor Dan Baader, and to your fine employees, for the hospitality that you showed to my husband and I and to our friends. You made us feel like we were the VIPs. Thanks so much.

Couldn't get into underground parking with a conversion van; with an elderly mother, this was inconvenient.

THE CASINO IS BEAUTIFUL AS I SEEN IT, BUT THEIR IS ONE SETBACK, THE CASINO NEEDS A HOTEL INSIDE THE CASINO LIKE THE REST OF THE CASINOS HAVE, THIS WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL FOR THE ELDERLY PEOPLE WHO CAN"T GET AROUND. THANK YOU, JOANN BOGART
