On Sept. 2, the "Ladies of Evergreen Benevolent Society," attendedthe "Rocky Mountain Concourse d"Elegance". Our day started at 8:30 a.m. on a beautiful Colorado Sunday as the ladies planned to meet and take the shuttleat the Norris Penrose Center (this shuttle turned out to be a wonderfuland comfortable tour bus). We were dressed in our finest fashions, "turn of the century,"1920" and 30's" vintage clothes with lovely "hats and Parasols." The driver on the bus was so kind as he gave us his hand and helped us onto the bus and told us how delightful it was to see us dressed for this wonderful event.
As we entered through the West gate of the 18th hole of the Broadmoor Golf Course we were instantly transported to a time of Elegance and Fashion. Very rarely do we get to experience such a dedication to the preservation of automobiles of this calibre. The" Ladies of Evergreen" glided from car to car in marvel of what we were glancing at. As we glided around in awe of these spectacular Vintage cars all eyes were on us ladies. Several owners came up to us and asked us if we wouldn't mind coming over to there automobiles and having our picture taken with their cars. As they were taking pictures visitors were asking to have there picture taikng with us also in front of the cars. I think we must have had our picture taken at least 500 times. Some of the owners even asked if we would sit in there cars and pose as they took photos of us.
We were so thrilled as we posed in a 1928 Gold Rolls Royce Phantom1.... sat in with the driver of the 1916 Pierce Arrow once owned by Rudyard Kipling,as pictures were being taken. The ladies posed in the 1929 Hudson Sport Sedan, and on the running board [ there is only 13 known to exist today]. The special treat of the day was to have our picture taken with the sister to the 1912 Renault Towncar that rests inside the TITANIC on the ocean floor. We were very excited because we are going in October to the Titanic exhibit in Denver dressed as they did in that era.
A lot of owners asked if we could pose beside there car for them to take a picture for themselves. One couple asked if they could get a picture of their little girls with us, so we gave the girls a parasol to hold for the picture, they looked so beautiful holding the parasols.
As you can imagine the day was full of excitement and grandeur for us "Ladies of Evergreen" we will never forget this wonderful day as we relived the past and went back in time.
Some of the cars that we saw were ;.... John Lennons 1965 Rolls Royce Limo..... Rolls Royce Phantom 1... 1926 Rolls Silver Ghost..... Clive Cussler cars...Otis Chandler's car, sister car to the titanic,.....The Pierce Arrow... A 1925 Kissel speedster....There were Ferraries ...a 1934 Avions Voisin... Bugatti.... 1912 Renault towncar ....a 1952 Cunningham..and Vintage motorcycles. These cars and bikes were all "Works of art." You will see the beauty of these cars in the pictures as nothing else that you have ever seen. Also it was great to watch the police escorts and how they directed traffic for this event ...you all were great... especially the ones at the Pioneer Museum . You all did such a wonderful job.
It's now 4p.m. and the show has ended and the ladies and I are going to get off our feet and go get an ice cream cone ..... We want to thank the Broadmoor and all who participated in this event for making our day so memorable. To us this had to be the Picasso of all car shows.
****There are also great pictures of the "Parade of Cars" as they went thru the beautiful Garden of the Gods on Saturday and then to the Pioneer Museum where the cars were parked for all to see. This is just a few that were taking on Saturday and Sunday. I hope you all enjoy the pictures.
