The Caffiend
I love coffee. That pretty much is all anyone really needs to know about me. I am a caffeine fiend - or a caffiend, a word I concocted about two minutes ago. I have a hot cup of Seattle's Best 6th Avenue Bistro sitting in front of me right now. I don't know a lot about coffee, but I can grind it and make it and drink it like it's going out of style. I usually have a cup of coffee in my hand. I suppose my character and personality do surge deeper than the 10-cup level. I dig fine art. I love to paint and draw. I like to sit in my living room and play the guitar (and drink coffee) on Saturday mornings. Hanging out with my wife Elise and daughter Laurel...those times are the best. I love fly-fishing, stepping into a clear stream and setting the day-to-day grind adrift. And I can sit and stare out the window at the mountains for a really long time. Elise says I'm "watching out." I think it's my way of meditating. Or maybe it's caffeine overdose.

If you put a group of citizen journalists in a room, feed them some cake and stir gently, they'll produce ideas - lots of ideas.
The YourHub staff, with your help, made this discovery at our 1-year anniversary back in November.
One of the best thoughts was to start a YourHub writers' group, a place to discuss local issues and the challenges of writing. We knew that one had legs.
So gather up your story ideas and questions about anything Hub related and join us at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pikes Perk, 5965 N. Academy Blvd., Suite 203.
This particular gathering will be loose and informal - a big discussion with plenty of time for questions. We'll also drag along Gazette Web producer Aaron Linn, who will demonstrate our new video tool. It's fun and easy to use.
We're going after the writers' groups idea, but we're not authorities in the area. We'll talk about what writers' groups might mean for YourHub. And we'll listen.
The potential is great. Think about this: YourHub, the 15 Web sites and four newspapers, belongs to you. OK, you don't own them, but in a sense it's true. You can participate in forming the direction of YourHub, help shape its identity. And you already determine the content.
What's the next step? We're encouraging this: Form your own writers' group. Set up your own schedule. We'll help promote your meetings, post them in the Hub papers and the staffers will send your meeting schedules in their weekly e-mail blasts.
But don't wait for us. These writers' groups, should they spring to life, will be yours, a meeting of citizen journalists where your ideas can emerge.
As always, we're going to be here, a phone call or e-mail away. This staff will continue to visit your neighborhood, your schools, coffee shops and clubs. We'll keep watch on the YourHub Web sites and we'll print as many of your stories as we can.
But your writers' group - or groups - can lead the way. And that seems to capture the spirit of citizen journalism.
