Inaugural Sportsman's Dinner sold out
Contributed by: Danny Summers on 2/7/2007

Rich Griffith used to hit 300-pound NFL defensive linemen for living.
Now he's using his prowess to bring outdoorsmen together.
"I am so pumped," Griffith said of this Friday's Inaugural Sportsman's Dinner at Woodmen Valley Chapel. "It's so exciting to see that people in our community have embraced this opportunity."
The dinner will be at the Rockrimmon campus at the Rockrimmon Community Center, 290 E. Woodmen Road.
Griffith is the director of sports and recreation ministries at Woodmen. The event includes Rocky McElveen, the guest speaker for the evening. McElveen is the author of the recently published, "Wild Men, Wild Alaska."
The gourmet dinner will be catered by award-winning chef Melody Money and will feature a variety of wild game appetizers and main dishes (chicken and beef will also be available).
Music will be provided by recording artist Danny Oertli. Door prizes (with admission) include an Alaskan Fishing Trip Giveaway and an Outfitter Tent and more.
All 320 seats for the event were sold out last week.
"We could over 350 people easily," said Griffith, a former tight end with the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. "I have a waiting list of people wanting to come. It's a nice problem to have."
Woodmen is sponsoring a Sportsmen's Expo in August. People will be able to meet outfitters, see new products and share thoughts on the fall hunting season.
"The neat thing about this is that people are able to get together and share their love for the outdoors," Griffith. "They can give God the credit for creating the beauty of the outdoors. And people who never come to the church may come to the dinner."
