Who's your candidate?
Contributed by: Holly Heiman on 1/23/2008

I've been a political activist since I first climbed on stage with a family member and Pete Seeger back in San Diego, 1983, for the massive Nuclear Freeze Rally & concert. That was when I also got to climb aboard the amazingly beautiful, but small Green Peace ship, 'Pacific Peacemaker', which was docked in the San Diego Bay.

I was only 13 at the time, but the experience changed me for the rest of my life.

Since then, and throughout my life, I am consistently involved in making change happen in the world around me - better known as being an 'activist'.

Activists don't go with the status quo, they don't allow media to brainwash them, and they don't ever take 'impossible' for an answer. And as a result of that mentality and lifestyle, we are able to make amazing changes happen in the world.

Thankfully, the majority of real activists also work for peace, justice and environmental causes, working to honor and preserve life and health for the whole earth. This is also referred to as being 'holistic'. Holistic comes from 'whole-ism', as in, including everything.

Activism works by stimulating people to think - like thinking 'outside the box'. And by empowering people to also take action in their lives. In' this day and age however, as our population grows beyond it's ability to maintain itself, we lose touch, and find it harder to feel that personal power.

So, I'm going to give you a little tool to get rid of some of that confusion.

Take this test: http://dehp.net/candidate/

If you aren't familiar with some of these candidates NOW IS THE TIME to do so. Stop following the media's lead - we have The Vote for a reason - and shouldn't forget it! (stop feeling powerless - it's all in your head)

Granted, I don't approve of the governmental system in our country, but since we are going to have a president regardless of our likes and dislikes, see what comes up for you.

My score was Kucinich all the way - he is aligned with everything I believe in (or vs vs)...after him is Mike Gravel. Who is your best choice? I'd like to know what you came up with. AND what are YOU going to do about it.

Need some ideas as to how you can make something happen in Colorado Springs? Let me know. I have over 20 years of experience organizing. Being disabled now makes things harder - but as John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote, all I need is a little help from my friends.
