New member appointed to Library District board of trustees
Colorado Springs, Colo. (February 1, 2007) - John D. Wilson has been appointed to the Pikes Peak Library District's board of trustees. Wilson, appointed jointly by representatives from the Colorado Springs City Council and El Paso County Commissioners, replaces trustee Thomas Herd. Herd's term expired in December.
Wilson works in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. He is President of Strategic Giving, the philanthropic consulting firm he founded in 2000 in New York City. Wilson has since expanded the services of Strategic Giving nationwide matching clients' giving objectives to suitable nonprofits and evaluating the results of grant projects.
Wilson is also involved in the political realm as a consultant and advisor to select clientele around the country. He has built state-based grassroots networks, worked with state leaders to increase effectiveness, taught board members how to strengthen their organizations, and created and led seminars on fundraising and philanthropy. He is also a mortgage broker with MVP Home Mortgage.
Wilson has a master's degree from Northwestern University in human development and social policy and a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Illinois. He has been a Northwestern University Fellow, a Thomas J. Watson Scholar, and a James Scholar. He has served in volunteer capacities for the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, the Cook County Jail, Junior Achievement and as an economics tutor.
PPLD is governed by the Pikes Peak Library District Board of Trustees, consisting of seven members. Members of the board are appointed for a five-year term, with appointments taking place as necessary. When PPLD board of trustees vacancies occur, they are advertised widely and citizens are encouraged to apply.
Pikes Peak Library District was founded in 1903. It serves a population of 516,366 with two main libraries, 10 branches, and two bookmobiles. PPLD has 402 employees and a collection of 1.1 million items. PPLD was ranked 9
th in the nation among libraries of its size by HAPLR (Hennan's American Public Library Ratings)
