Expressive Arts Center Opens in Manitou
Contributed by: Robin Anderson on 2/5/2008

Expressive Arts Center in Manitou Springs
Providing an environment for creative expression and healing through the arts.

There is a healthy, creative spirit within each of us that longs to emerge, to be known and celebrated. Expressive arts counseling is the use of drawing, writing, poetry, painting, movement, collage, puppetry, music and theatre to provide for expression, growth and healing.

Central to expressive arts counseling is the belief that the process of making art is as important as the content it expresses. You will be guided in finding and expressing your creative spirit, to see your life in a new way, allowing you to tap into powerful new resources for confronting life's challenges. Evenif you are dealing with painful or frightening issues, expressing yourself through a creative process provides fresh perspectives and a sense of hope and empowerment.

When using the arts for self-healing, we are not concerned with the beauty of the visual art, the grammar and style of writing, or the harmonic flow of a song created. We use the arts to let go, to express and to release.

The expressive arts experience offers an opportunity to re-discover your innate abilities in a safe, playful, person-centered environment.

Private Sessions

Using expressive drawing and/or journaling, you will move into other art forms to communicate and express. You may include other important people in your sessions to create relationships through art.

Group Sessions

Experience creative transformation within a safe and supportive environment, working in theme-based groups. Once gathered together, the group will determine the creative path. A sampling of the group themes are:

-Grief and Loss

-Relationship

-Abuse and trauma recovery

-Spiritual growth

Community Outreach

Bringing art to the community includes artist in residence programs in schools, hospitals, senior living facilities and mental health settings. We will come to you to incorporate one time or ongoing art programs for students, clients and staff in your organization.

Workshops

Weekend workshops are available using the Touch Drawing Process. You will experience the freedom that comes from letting go of the critical mind, of freely expressing in the moment.

Wow! How cool is this!!! Awesome Robin! I wish you great success in making the world a little better through art and expression! I am a singer without much outlet lately until I actually started karaokeing! (yes really). Many "real" singers would roll their eyes at that. But I find pouring out my heart into a song very therapeutic, and the karaoke venue allows me to suspend my perfectionism, and not be as self-critical. I think we need more places where we are encouraged to be fully human.
