Manitou Writers- Unite!
As a writer I have long since dreamed of attending a convention. A horror convention, sci-fi convention...don't care so long as I have a place in it. The trouble thus far is that traveling is an expense I cannot afford. Traveling plus membership dues and booth rentals makes attending a convention far from reach.
Drats!
But having something far from my reach has yet to stop me from reaching, so here is what I propose. A horror/sci-fi/fantasy here in Manitou Springs.
Allow me to expand a little: I am a published writer with a small press publisher. The drawback to that is all publicity is up to me. The major drawback being that I hate publicity. Oh sure, I love what it brings, but I'm just not good at it. The upside is that I am one of a million big publisher authors so I don't get lost in the shuffle. And frankly, I like my publisher and consider him a friend.
Anyway, I know I am not the only one amongst us who loves to write, loves having what I write being read, and am intimidated at all the hoopla of press kits, media kits, and other media related stuff I am supposed to be doing.
Now back to the idea: Manitou is all about the community and all about the arts. Let us take advantage of that and bring together all the other horror/sci-fi/fantasy writers out there. Of course, I don't mean to exclude anybody. Writers from all over are welcomed to participate.
So here we go: let's do this. Let's make a small-time convention of our own. Yes, it will cost us money because all things do, but I think with volunteers and people willing to chip in we can make the fees small enough so that all interested can attend.
This is where I need your ideas and feedback. Help me get this thing started by contributing whatever you have (knowledge, ideas, willingness to help...).
