Before you dive headlong into the frenzied schedule that Fall brings, take the time to savor these last idyllic days of Summer in Manitou Springs. With everything that Manitou has to offer year-round, the Midweek Farmers Market in Soda Springs Park is one summertime treat that is missed when it ends. The last two weeks of the Farmers Market feature all the fresh fruit and veggies, good food, good fun and good music we've come to expect, but with a couple of interesting twists.
There's fun for the whole family at the Farmers Market---face painting and a Kids Korner that offers arts and crafts activities for the youngsters; handmade original art, jewelry and goods that are not readily available anywhere else; artisan breads, homemade tamales and fresh kettlecorn popcorn---there's something for everyone!
On Wednesday, August 27, the last day of the Market, get ready for the 4th Annual Hippy Dippy Chili Fiesta, a chili cook-off that promises to deliver samples of the best recipes in the region. In this pro-am cook-off, participants are required to submit a five-gallon pot of red or green chili for judging. This is a fiesta, so they are also encouraged to really get into the vibe of the event by dressing up and decorating their booths. The entrant with the most tickets will garner the People's Choice Award. The overall winner will go home with the much-coveted Chili Garcia trophy, a traveling award that is relinquished to the new winner each year.
So don't put away those sandals and sunscreen just yet...you have two more weeks to enjoy the Midweek Farmer's Market in Manitou Springs and what promises to be a lovely Indian Summer.
