Famed bag piper, Mr. Sam Swancutt, will perform for the Stratmoor Hills Neighborhood Association meeting on March 1.
Swancutt pipes for the Royal Canadian Air Force in Colorado Springs and is in demand at numerous events. Swancutt is one in a series of presentors the SHNA features each month at its business and social meetings.
So far this season we've heard from speakers who addressed topics such as the funeral business; we had a demonstration by the El Paso County Sheriff's Canine Unit, the Polish Childrens Choir sang for us at Christmas time, a representative of the Pikes Peak Area Agency on the Aging talked about services available to seniors, Oakwood Homes discussed a new development to be constructed near Pikes Peak Community College, and the owner of a travel agency presented group and individual travel opportunities.
April will bring us an executive with the Army Corps of Engineers who will describe the impact troop increases and expansion on Fort Carson will have on our Southwest Colorado Springs community.
When we're ready to work on our lawns in May, an expert with Colorado Springs Utilities (former xeriscaper for President and Mrs. Gerald Ford) will explain the benefits of xeriscaping.
The SHNA is an active organization which holds business and social meetings each month.
In the fall we have a huge spaghetti dinner, at Christmastime we have a potluck dinner, in the spring we hold a neighborhood garage sale along with a neighborhood clean up.
In August we picnic in the Stratmoor Park Pavillion. No fees or homeowner dues are charged. Refreshments are presented at each meeting.
Friends and neighbors are welcome to join us at all of our meetings which are held at 7p.m. the first Thursday of each month at the Stratmoor Elementary School.
Readers are particularly invited to wear green to celebrate St Patrick's Day when they attend the March 1meeting featuring Bag Piper Sam Swancutt .
