A plume of smoke visible from miles away marked the beginning of fire season in El Paso County today as a grass fire burned approximately 30 acres of land northeast of Schriever Air Force Base.
Crews from Ellicott and Schriever AFB were among responders who brought the blaze under control at approximately 6 p.m. At least two people were evacuated, according to a report by KKTV 11 News, but returned to their homes once the fire was brought under control.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
