Thanks to the generosity of Tim Bergsten, the editor at YourHub my husband and I were able to enjoy the Simpsons movie in exchange for writing an article. I have to begin by telling you that I am a big Simpsons fan.
I have watched almost every episode of the TV show which has been on television for almost two decades. I'm not such a crazy fan that I collect everything Simpsons and have their bed sheets on my bed or anything like that. But, I will tell you that I find the Simpsons humor to be laugh out loud funny and it rarely disappoints. With all that being said, it may not be that surprising to you that I'd give this movie a grade of "A."
The story centers on bumbling Homer once again getting himself and the family in trouble, so much so that they are run out of town and forced to start their lives again somewhere new. Homer struggles to redeem himself in the face of the townspeople and especially his family.
Though the tale focuses the most on the Simpson clan, many of my favorite characters make appearances in the film as well.
I will say that I wouldn't recommend you go see the movie for the plot. It's the jokes and gags that will stay with you and keep you laughing long after you leave the theater. You will really enjoy some things that I hadn't seen on the Simpsons on TV such as some indecent exposure, drug use, and harsh religious jokes.
Since these scenes are a small part of the movie I'd say this is still a family movie.
I like the Simpsons best for the utter silliness that ensues when Homer makes a fool of himself.
There is plenty of this in the movie. For example, when Homer adopts a pig and has it walk on the ceiling and sings the song "Spider Pig" it made me laugh then and still brings a smile to my face. The absolutely ridiculous scenes like this make this movie worth opening your pocketbooks to see on the big screen.
