Another life is taken because of drinking and driving. Another teenager has been lost, too early in life. There have been
six
traffic deaths so far,
five
of them were alcohol related and
two
of those lives were teens,
that's one third
! Graham first and now, Evan. It's only April. *** UPDATE: We lost another one, Michael in Pueblo, this past weekend, on April 5.
Now, that is
1/2!
3 out of the 6 alcohol related ones, have taken our teenagers...
There is a program called Every 15 Minutes. It is geared toward the juniors and seniors at high school, since they are the up-and-coming drivers of tomorrow. This is not another "...against drunk drivers" organization. Pamphlets are not used to relay the outcome of this action, they give the students a dose of reality. There are sirens, cops, fire trucks, the ambulance, the coroner and an arrest of another student that was the driver in a mock crash,
but no one gets hurt!
The events are staged but the emotions that are brought out, are very real. An assembly is held the following day where the "dead" are brought back to be with their family & classmates once again. This, is the Every 15 Minutes Program!
Fort Carson had them last year and has invited them back after the results that they have seen.
Please check out the Web site at:
www.every15minutes.com
.
The program is nationwide. The program locally, is run by James Forrest, Jr., at 719/244-7560, & a couple other volunteers. Contact can be made by e-mail at:
