COSROCS Launches Smokin Web Site
Contributed by: Dr. Warren B. Layfield on 12/21/2006

Local community service organization COSROCS (Colorado Springs Rocket Society) landed a huge year-end contribution in the form of a completely redesigned web site at COSROCS.org. The site was posted on Dec. 2 after several weeks of development. Improvements over the old site include faster loading, easy navigation, some cool little Flash animation bling, an updated look, clean design, and easier, more standardized upgradeability.
Club president Dave Virga said, "We've needed an updated Web site forever, but as a non-profit community educational organization, we couldn't afford to spend the thousands of dollars it would normally cost to develop a site of this caliber. Brandango.us believes in our mission and donated their design, branding and production talents to get us this upgrade in record time. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We're extremely happy with the finished product, and it's already been updated several times.
The site includes the club's launch schedule, educational schedule for schools, Scouting, and 4-H groups, special events like airshows, lots of photos, plans, articles and videos of launches and from cameras mounted on rockets.
COSROCS has NAR (National Association of Rocketry) sanctioning. Section adviser and education director Dr. Warren Layfield said, "We pride ourselves in our safety record, friendly club environment and our rocketry based educational efforts in the state of Colorado. We promote model rocketry as a safe, funand exciting family-oriented hobby. The new Web site helps us do our job better; it just looks great and is very easy to use."
COSROCS has:
• Organization and management for family participation.
• Advanced launch facilities.
• Safety checks at all launches.
• Monthly supervised sport launches, free and open to the public.
• Mini-contests (fun events) at many sport launches.
•Two Sponsored (regional) NAR competitions per year: "Winterfest" during January, and "Pikes Peak or Blast" during June or July.
• Educational training and teacher assistance for schools and clubs.
• Kit-building seminars.
• Demonstration launches and static displays.
• Team America Rocketry Challenge support. (See the current article about the Cheyenne Mountain High School team.)
• Unique club-sponsored beta testing and research-and-development efforts.
Brandango.us owner Jeff Lane said, "Because we have the opportunity to provide illustration, design, brand and marketing management, product development and advertising services to so many regional and international clients, it is a pleasure to give back to the community. COSROCS is a worthy organization and is a tremendous asset to Colorado Springs. Their efforts in education are phenomenal, and we support them wholly.
