REMEMBERING THAT WE ARE STILL THE LAND OF THE FREE

PINE CREEK FLAGS

A joint service project, serving the Village of Pine Creek, between
Colorado Springs Boy Scouts of America Troop 62 and
The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs InterQuest

In remembrance of those lost on September 11, 2001, the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs InterQuest and the Boy Scouts of America erected the American flag in front of participating homes in the Pine Creek subdivision.

On this day, Rotarians and Scouts placed a large 3'x5' flag on a 10' pole near the sidewalk in front of each participating home in the Pine Creek Subdivision just after sunrise, and removed it in the evening prior to sunset.

A Pine Creek homeowner had this to say, "We are SO proud and thankful that you and the organization and Boy Scouts are so faithful in this worthy endeavor! Seeing the flags in yards brings tears to our eyes for what it all represents! WE are so very glad you have included September 11 as well and like you, feel this is a very important date to keep in our mind, hearts and prayers."

This joint Flag Service project was started last year when we joined with our friends and neighbors in displaying the American Flag, our symbol of freedom, on five patriotic holidays each year: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran's Day. The Scout Troop and the Rotary Club have decided to donate the flags this year in remembrance of 9/11 .

The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs InterQuest's joint Flag Service program with the Boy Scouts of America is only one of many projects they coordinate in the Pikes Peak region and throughout the world. Through these projects, the Rotary Club raises funds to support programs involving literacy, health and clean water initiatives in both our local and international communities. The Rotary Club's joint projects range from purchasing dictionaries for every 3rd grade student in Districts 20, 38 and 8, to helping rebuild the fishing industry in post-Tsunami India, to building orphanages in Uganda.
