Rampart "crew" helps band get to state!

Nydia Segal and her husband flew in from Nevada to help Rampart High School sell programs, patches and watch her grandson Alex perform at the Southern Regional Qualifying band competition. Rampartfinished first in the 5A division and is headed to Fort Collins andState competitionon Oct. 20.

Jodee Jakuszeit had two daughters go through all four years of high school participate in the band program. She and her husband still volunteer with the band booster club even though the girls are in college now.

"We will be filling in the gaps today, whereever there is a hole. Water, emergencies, gophers. We have our radios," Jakuszeit said.

"In the eight years we have done this, we have never met a bad band kid," she said. "Band helps them become a well rounded individual."

Rene' Stewart worked as a band escort during the competition.
"I help all the kids get on and off the field, show them to the warm-up area," Stewart said. When her child isn't in this big of a competition, she said she helps with the 'front assembly'of the band, probably 3 to 4 hours a week.

Stewart's counterpart for the day was proud mom Carol Braker. Her freshman at Rampart plays the saxaphone.

"The band has become a family to us," Jodee Jakuszeit said, "That's why we are here even though our girls have graduated."
