Austin Bluffs/Union Traffic Impacts - May 23 - 31
Contributed by: Austin Bluffs-Union on 5/23/2008

Drivers should expect delays, and use alternate routes when possible.

Crews on the Austin Bluffs Interchange at Union Boulevard project will not work over the Memorial Day weekend to ease traffic congestion for the traveling public.

Paving operations on north and southbound Union Boulevard will continue this week and traffic will remain at two lanes each way. On Tuesday night, traffic will be shifted for paving operations and drivers should expect an alternate lane configuration Wednesday morning. Delays are anticipated and alternate routes are advised. Please pay close attention to signage and traffic alerts in the coming weeks for more details on upcoming impacts.

Lawrence Construction and the City of Colorado Springs would like to remind drivers to abide by the posted speed limits throughout the project. As construction activities become more frequent, those posted speeds are vital to the safety of construction crews and the traveling public.

Details of traffic impacts and lane closures for:

Northbound and Southbound Union Boulevard Overnight Lane Shift

Tuesday, May 27, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

· Intermittent northbound and southbound Union Boulevard lane closures will allow crews to stripe the roads and prepare for the lane shift.

· Crews will shift both northbound and southbound Union Boulevard traffic onto the new pavement to allow for paving operations on the remainder of the Union Boulevard intersection.

· Drivers should expect an alternate lane configuration on the morning of Wednesday, May 28 that continues until crews have completed paving operations.

· Union Boulevard between Damon Drive and the Premier Health entrance will remain at two through-lanes until crews are finished paving.

· A right turn lane on Southbound Union will accommodate right turns onto westbound Austin Bluffs Parkway.

Access to the Premier Health facility will not be affected.

All construction impacts and closures are weather and resource dependent.

The Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority was formed when voters in Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Green Mountain Falls and El Paso County approved a one percent sales tax in November of 2004 to address infrastructure and transit needs in the region. The tax revenue is divided into three categories: 55% capital improvements, 35% maintenance, and 10% transit. The capital portion of the tax will sunset at the end of the year 2014.
