It is an exciting and rewarding time to serve as the Public Works Director for Colorado Springs.
With the passage of the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority funding we are designing and constructing significant transportation projects in the community. These projects improve the safety of our roadways and increase the mobility of our community. We have also improved our ability to maintain the transportation infrastructure in the community. This can be seen in road resurfacing projects; curb, gutter, sidewalk, and ADA ramp repairs and installations; and improved traffic signal operations. The Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority funding has also provided funds to improve our transit system through new routes, improved transit system designs, and new buses.
The Stormwater Enterprise is providing funding to address long standing drainage system problems throughout our community. Major projects are being designed and constructed that provide protection of drainage ways, safety improvements to protect lives, and drainage way studies to determine the most necessary improvements for the future. Our ability to maintain the drainage ways has improved and the funding to respond to emergencies is in place.
Public Works contributes to quality of life and public safety in Colorado Springs through building and maintaining our transportation system, building and maintaining our drainage system, operating and improving our transit system, providing parking in Downtown and Old Colorado City, and keeping Pikes Peak Highway operating as a major tourist attraction. This is accomplished by a dedicated, positive workforce whose main goal is to help create a thriving community in Colorado Springs.
