PARENTS TELEVISION COUNCIL HAS CHAPTER IN COLORADO SPRINGS
If you are tired of televisions' often excessive use of profanity, sex, and violence, you are welcome to join the activists of the Parents Television Council's (PTC) chapter in Colorado Springs. Eric Brookens, Chapter Director, is concerned about how the entertainment industry continues to bombard our public airwaves with graphics and words that are unnecessary to quality broadcasting. Brookens notes that many people are disturbed with the increase of television indecency, but aren't sure how to take action against it. The PTC gives those concerned an avenue for expressing their discontent. If you are interested in joining PTC (no membership fee) and work toward cleaning up television in our area, contact Brookens at 1-800-216-9683 or at
coloradospringschapter@parentstv.org .
The PTC was founded in 1995 to ensure that children are not constantly assaulted by sex, violence, and profanity on television and other media. This national grassroots organization has more than one million members and 48 chapters across the United States. It works with television producers, broadcasters, networks and sponsors in an effort to stem the flow of harmful and negative messages targeted to children. The PTC also works with elected and appointed government officials to enforce broadcast decency standards. Most importantly, the PTC produces critical research and publications documenting the dramatic increase in sex, violence, and profanity in television and movies. Their website (
www.parentstv.org) gives weekly recommendations on appropriate television and movie viewing, so the child and parent are not suddenly caught "off guard" with inappropriate viewing material. You CAN make a difference!
