Couple leave military, start"Family Time" business
Contributed by: Nancy Bennett on 11/26/2007

Having lived the military life for almost 16 years, my husband Greg was only 4 years away from military retirement, when we received our life changing news.

We were finally pregnant after seven years of trying repeatedly with no success! This became the turning point in both my husbands and my life. We were faced with uprooting our soon to be family of three and leaving Colorado Springs for the second time within six years or resign the military life for the great uncertainties of the civilian world, which up until this time, my husband had known no other career.

We had grown very fond of Colorado Springs and really couldn't imagine starting a family anywhere else. After many discussions and sleepless nights we finally decided to separate from the military and pursuit our dreams of owning a business that would incorporate our family values. Backyards & Billiards fit the mark to a tee as we offer health & recreational products such as Spas, Billiards and Game Tables which encourage families to Relax, Rejuvenate and Reconnect... (Our slogan).

Backyards & Billiards is also committed to providing products which promote a healthy lifestyle. We just recently introduced our Therapeutic Far-Infrared (FIR) wave Cedrus Sauna Collection which has beneficial results in a variety of illnesses from removal of toxins, reduction of muscle spasms and inflammation, lowering blood pressure and aiding in cardiovascular conditioning. The long list of health benefits of a FIR sauna stand in contrast to the dangers of regular heat saunas. Those with high blood pressure cannot use a regular heat sauna because it increases blood pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance. In studies published in the Journal of Cardiology, Mayo Clinic physicians tested patients with congestive heart failure on the FIR sauna. The physicians found that not only did their patients tolerate treatment in the FIR sauna, but blood pressure was reduced and their condition improved with no side effects. One can be exposed to FIR heat for hours and it will never cause your skin to burn. FIR heat is completely healthy and safe for all living things. In fact, FIR heat is so safe it is used in hospitals to warm newborn infants.

Speaking of newborn babies, our little girl, Chloe, is now a joyous 3 year old. We have not once had any regrets for changing our lifestyle to spend these precious times with our daughter here in "The Springs" of which we have called home for the past 9 years. Chloe looks forward to her "spa splashes" with her family, and enjoys her time playing Pool with her Daddy. In addition, she is further blessed to grow up with her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all within a five minute drive. A dear friend once told me regarding my baby, "the days go by long, but the years go by fast". There is so much truth to that statement which is why our goal is to promote relationship building activities with others so their lives may be enhanced by the products which promote closeness and family connection.
